Hello everyone,
What you're about to read is not my typical kind of blog. I hope you will look into it anyway, as it's directly related to the music business and why indie musicians like myself struggle day to day.
This week I have been informed of an app that allows anyone with an Android phone to download music for free. I must admit, this wasn't really news that caught my attention until I was told by a family member that my own music had been added to the list. These were not just audio files taken from my Youtube video uploads; something like that would not have been such an issue, but the list included full songs from my latest album, Definitely.
I know that telling you where to find my songs for free is sort of ironic, but please allow me to explain some stuff about it that you haven't heard before.
Definitely is a project that was nothing short of a miracle to complete. Much heart and money were poured into it, and I'm not sure if some of my listeners realize this, but the low-priced downloads, along with the CD purchases at concerts have not yet covered the expense of making the album. As I am attempting to support myself solely on the music, your help is the one way I can even begin to go on and create more music for you, because studio-quality tracks cost money.
I want you guys to know that I love you all. I absolutely recognize that you are a key part in my success. Your kind comments, your personal stories, and the time you take out of your day are why I have stretched the little money I do have into making what you can easily locate and listen to for free on my website. Giving back to those who listen is the reason I put every song on the music pages for people to play as many times as they wish. If going to the website becomes a bit of a hassle, then it costs but a dollar per song (and even less per song if you purchase the album) to have it elsewhere on your computer/phone forever. I must also tell you that a lot of those cents go to companies like iTunes and CD Baby before they ever come to me.
Having to do with this Android app, I was never contacted for permission to host the songs for free, and in turn, I am seeing not even a penny from it.
I hope that if you're a fan who has ever uploaded someone else's music for download, this will help you understand just a little more about the creators of the songs you love to listen to.
Thank you for reading.
